Chimney Rock

Last weekend we went to Chimney Rock in Northern Idaho. It has a long dirt road that gets very bad towards the end. My Prius came within a half mile of making it.

We had hoped to do several routes . After the hour long approach, we did the It aint Hay start to the Fun Roof finish. After a cold night of camping, it was too cold in the morning to do any more routes. It will be a great place to return to. Rob and Megan did a variation of the Rappel Chimney route.

Stellar granite to be had here.

Hey – I stumbled upon your website looking for ice conditions and read your report on Chimney. I have spent a lot of time in that country with my folks, and have been up to Chimney Rock a couple of times. A hard to get to gem, but a special place if you can avoid the bugs! I hope to get back there and climb some more.
